The type of habitat an barred owl needs is a old growth forest. The barred owls diet are small rodents. Two interesting things I learned are you should not rescue an animal without a parnets permisson and it's importent that you should not kill these creatures cause there really importent in life.

Q6.2 interresting facts i learned was a owl like(Athena) there chest can get puffy and if its hot.Also i leaarned that when a owlet is born it has big claws!Q1 i think barred owls are good hunters by its head because its head can turn 270 degrees so she can see mostly around her.also she has sharp claws to catch prey.Q2 the type of habitat that the barred owl lives in is a macher forest (not od growth forest).
ReplyDeleteA barred owl needs a regular forest for its habitat. Part of the barred owls diet is Insectivores, Rodents and Birds. I learned that an owl can turn its head to a 270 degree angle. Also I leared that they use their talons to crush the scull of their prey.

The chararistics that help Athena hunt are that they have huge black eyes and talons. Barred owls need the habbitat of mature forests.The crop is a extra stomach that is used to help digest there food better. Kaleb

The habitat a Barred Owl needs are mature forest. Some animals of the Barred Owls Diet are flying squirrels, rats, mice, fish, snakes, voles, and small birds like robins. I also learned that the Crop is a part in the owls throat that a swallowed animal is taken to. Then the acids in the Crop dissolve all the meat. The meat goes to the stomach. The fur and bones do not dissolve. They are put in a pellet that the owl spits out. It's basically another stomach that owls have.

The habitat that barn owls need is growth forests not old growth forests.
Barred owls need old growth forests (with trees of course!)Some interesting things I learned from todays presentation is that owls can turn their heads 270 deegres! Amazing! Also they have a really large wingspand of two grown up arms! Barred owls eat mice, snakes, birds and rats.

ReplyDelete2. Barred owls need to live in the tall, strong trees of old-growth forests.
3. A Barred owl like Athena would eat things like rats, mice, voles, chipmunks, lizards, frogs, fish, birds, and large insects.
5. A crop is a second stomach that softens and digests the meat Barred owls eat and separates the bones/fur, then regurgitate the bones/fur into pellets.
6. I learned that owls have rather large ears/eyes and have one ear higher than the other ear to hear things in higher depth.

ReplyDeleteWhen the Wildlife Shelter presenter came in and talked to us about Barred owls I learned that they were very flexible and would eat almost anything. I also learned that Barred owls like places near water and that they need 200 to 900 acres of land to survive. Some adaptations owls have for hunting at night are:

Barred Owls live in old growth forests because they like to be high up and away from people and predators.

Since owls can't make their eyes go up and down, as their food gets closer, it goes out of sight. Owls can also make one eye have a small pupil and the other eye have a big pupil.
A Barred owl need a place that has tall trees and a lot of food. The characteristics of the Barred owl is that they have big eyes and when they are being attacked they put one wing on their body and the other wing up. The owl's diet is snakes, insects, and birds.-Alexis

ReplyDeleteQ2 - Typical Barred Owl habitat consists of forests with some mature trees near open country. The historic range encompassed the eastern half of the United States, but recently the owl’s range is expanding into western North America.
Q3 - They eat deer mice,wood rats, fish, flying squirrels, moles,other birds, bats, crayfish, reptiles,rabbits, weasels,and,amphibians
Q4- The diet of the barred owl is basicly the same as the spotted owl.
Q5 - A crop is like another stomach,they use it by eating ther food whole,then it goes to the crop and it gets smashed.Then after all that happens the food goes to the other stomach.

Barred owls need to eat crickets and drink water to live.The also sometimes eat mice or other rodents.Barred owls dont need lots of space for there habitat because then they wont find much food and catch prey.Two other things I saw at the presentation: I liked seeing the owl spinning its head 275 degres clock wise and I liked seeing the owl try the owl trying to escape.

ReplyDeleteQ2 Barred owls eat rodents 90 percent of the time, birds 5 percent of the time and insectivores 5 percent of the time (which is not that much).
Q3 I learned that owls have a thing in their neck called a crop. The crop is used when the owl eats something. The owl swallows their food whole then it goes into the crop and the crop brakes down the food so the owl dosen't choke.

3 intresting facts i know about barred owls are: one of them is some of the animals in a barred owls diet are mice, rabbits, and flying squirrels and the difference between a spotted owl is that spotted owls mostly only eat flying squirels. another intresting fact about barred owls are that when they catch their pray they spread out their fingers the snatch their pray by closing their fingers back again. Another good thing about their body that helps catch their pray is that when they fly their wings are realy quiet. -chloe
